The
wetlands and coastal lagoons are ecosystems that lodge environments
and species of high ecological interest. In spite of this,
pressure by human activity in their surroundings has caused
a drastic reduction in their extension and in the quality
of their waters.
The
Baix Ter wetlands are a system of humid areas resulting from
the interaction of the sea with the Ter and Daró rivers.
These are located on the coastal strip known as beaches of
Pals and Estartit; a heavily populated and tourist area and
as a consequence the wetlands are very fragmented. With the
purpose of recovering their ecological state and value, a
restoration and recovery program has begun. Within it, two
Life projects financed by the EU (50%) are framed. |
